Track and Field Competes at NJAC Championships

Staten Island, NY| The St. Joseph's College indoor track and field team competed at the NJAC Indoor Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY Monday evening.

The men's 4 X 200 relay team of Brandon Linbrunner, Daniel Antonawich, Brandon Phan and Anthony Figorito broke the SJC record with a time of 1:33.49 qualifying for the ECAC Championships. Figorito finished just outside the top 10 in his 400-meter finals coming in at 52.18.

In the mile, freshmen Thomas Newham and Jeremy Anderson placed 10th and 11th with times of 4:37.95 and 5:04.67 respectively. Sophomore Nick DeLuca and junior Ryan Haun both finished 11th in their 3000-meter and 5000-meter races with times of 9:58.84 and 16:13.69.

On the field, Phan placed 12th in the long jump at 5.85 meters and 13th in the triple jump at 12.18 meters. Seniors Alex Becker and Joseph Wetzel came in 17th (10.49 meters) and 18th (9.64 meters) in the shot put.

For the women, senior Erin MacDonell qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3000-meter race breaking the SJC record with a time of 10:46.27.

Junior Jennifer Holownia placed 14th in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.92 before placing ninth in the long jump with a 4.69-meter mark. Freshman Meagan Haviland and sophomore Jennifer O'Connor competed in the mile race coming in at 10th and 12th respectively with times of 5:40.60 and 6:15.25.

Rounding out the top finishers for the women were senior Amanda Sprague and sophomore Stephanie Surrusco in the 800-meter race placing 11th (2:40.38) and 14th (2:57.12).

The Golden Eagles wrap up their indoor season at the ECAC Championships held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory in New York, NY March 2nd and 3rd.
