Ospreys Fly Past Eagles in First Game of New Year

Galloway, N.J. – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team (8-4) was routed by the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College (7-3), 76-43. The loss marked the largest deficit of defeat for the Eagles this season.

The Lady Eagles struggled out of the gate, allowing the Ospreys get out to a 14-point lead with 9:21 left in the first half. St. Joseph's had problems scoring, hitting just 8-of-38 from the floor.  A three pointer by Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) sparked an 8-3 run that allowed St. Joseph's to head into the locker down by a more manageable 10 points.

Unfortunately, the second half was more of the same for the Eagles as Richard Stockton outscored St. Joseph's 18-8 in the opening eight minutes. The deficit was too large to overcome for the visitors as the Osprey's lead never fell below 15 points after that point.

St. Joseph's was unable to solve the Osprey defense and shot only 24.6% from the floor for the game. Richard Stockton dominated in the paint and on the glass. The Ospreys out rebounded the Eagles 58-41 and had the advantage with 34 points in the paint compared to the Eagles' 12.

Next on the schedule for St. Joseph's is a conference battle at Mount Saint Mary (5-7, 2-1 Skyline) tomorrow, January 7, at 7:00 p.m. Last season the Knights swept the season series and Skyline Tournament semifinal matchup on their way to the Skyline Conference Championship.
