Snapped! Eagles End 21-Game Skid to Farmingdale

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College Golden Eagles (12-10, 6-5 Skyline) ended a 21-game losing streak with a 74-56 win over the Rams of Farmingdale State (9-10, 7-4 Skyline). The last time St. Joseph's defeated the Rams was on December 15, 2001.

St. Joseph's dominated the first half giving up only 17 points; Farmingdale did not hit double-digit points until there was 5:34 left in the half. A three-pointer by senior forward Amanda Bender (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) gave the Lady Eagles a 12-6 lead and they would never look back. Over the last ten minutes of the half St. Joseph's outscored the Rams 17-11 to head into the locker room with a 29-17 lead.

The Eagles poured on more points to open the second half as they hit four unanswered three's in the first four minutes, three of which were by junior forward Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y. / Centereach). From that point on the Lady Eagles cruised to an easy but well-deserved victory. Hamlin and Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) each scored 15 points in the second half, with Cohen going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

St. Joseph's had three players with double-doubles: Ashley Larrea (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds, Danielle Hamlin with 20 points and 10 boards, and Amanda Bender's 17 points and 10 rebounds. As a team the Eagles out-rebounded the Rams 52-30 and held them to just 30.3% shooting from the floor.

Next up for the Lady Eagles is a home game against Sage (7-13, 4-7 Skyline) on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  Earlier this season, St. Joseph's defeated the Gators, 69-57. The ladies currently sit one game out of the final playoff spot in the Skyline Conference Tournament.
