Lady Eagles Bear-Clawed in Second Half of "East vs. West" Game

Brooklyn, N.Y. — After fighting to take the lead at the half, the Lady Golden Eagles (0-8) couldn't find a way to finish with a win against their Brooklyn Bear (7-3) sisters at SJC's annual "East vs. West" face-off, 54-40.  Senior forward Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y./ Centereach) had a game-high of 16 points for the visiting Long Island team.

The Eagles did not exactly come out of the gate strong but as the minutes passed they found their stride and stayed within striking distance of their Brooklyn counterparts.  With five minutes left in the first half the Eagles were down by one as Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East) stepped up to the free-throw line.  Her first shot was good, tying the game at 22; the second was also good and put the Eagles ahead by a single point.  The visiting team maintained the lead and when the halftime buzzer sounded, they led 27-26.

The Eagles had a more difficult time rallying in the second half however as the Bears regained their lead and only continued to widen it. Unable to catch up, the Eagles accepted defeat with the scoreboard reading 54-40 at the final buzzer.

In addition to her 16 points Hamlin also pulled down nine rebounds. Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East) contributed with seven points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The Lady Eagles will play again on January 6 at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference game against Richard Stockton.
