Lady Eagles Fail to Upset First Place Dolphins

Patchogue, N.Y.— The Lady Golden Eagles (1-12, 1-3 SKY) took on the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins (10-3, 4-1 SKY) on Monday but, despite their unrelenting hustle, they were unable to grab a win, falling to their fellow Skyline Conference competitors, 73-61.

Though the Eagles never achieved a lead over the visiting team, they maintained a close tail throughout the first twenty minutes of play. After forcing nine turnovers and countering the Dolphin's full court press, SJC lagged by only eight points at halftime to a team that has only lost three games this season.

The Eagles maintained their intensity in the second half, forcing 12 turnovers and scoring a commendable 30 points to Mt. St. Vincent's 34.  The lead that the Dolphins established in the first half, however, proved to be too much for the home team to overcome.

Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y./ Centereach) was a force to be reckoned with down low, racking up a game-high of 27 points and ripping down a whopping 15 rebounds. Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East) and Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East) finished with 11 points and nine points, respectively, while Katie McGarrel's (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) relentless defensive efforts earned her nine rebounds in addition to her five points.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Farmingdale State on Thursday for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
