Panthers Second Half Surge Dooms Lady Eagles

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Lady Golden Eagles (1-13, 1-4 SKY) seemed to have the Purchase Panthers (7-7, 3-3 SKY) on the ropes in the first half of Saturday's Skyline Conference game, but the Panther's superior performance in the second half earned the visiting team the 70-64 win.

The Eagles took a 15-12 lead ten minutes into the first half with Danielle Hamlin's (Centereach, N.Y./ Centereach) three-point jumper and maintained their advantage until four consecutive made Panther free throws, with less than a minute left in the half, gave Purchase a one point lead at half time.

The Eagles couldn't manage the same synergy in the second half as turnovers and excessive fouls kept them from maintaining possession or converting their possessions into points.

Hamlin led her team's offense with 20 points, including four three-pointers.  Hamlin was aided by Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East), who logged 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals as well as Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East), who finished with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

The Golden Eagles will travel to New Rochelle on Monday for a 7 p.m. for a non-conference game.
