Dolphins Take Down Eagles

Riverdale, N.Y. – The Lady Eagles (2-19, 2-9 Skyline) couldn't overcome a 13-point halftime deficit as they were defeated 76-58 at the hands of the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins (17-6, 9-3 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon.

Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) got the Eagles off to a fast start with three-pointers on her first two shots of the night that put the Eagles ahead 6-5 just three minutes into the game. However, Hamlin and the rest of the Lady Eagles couldn't buy a bucket for the next six minutes of play as the Dolphins went on a 12-0 run. Trailing by 12 at the half-way mark of the first half, Hamlin kick-started her team once again with a three and Colleen Fitzsimons (Commack, N.Y./Commack) followed it up with a mid-range jumper to cut the lead down to 7 but the Eagles failed to show any consistency on the offensive end, outscored 17-10 for the remainder of the half.

The second half was no different for the Golden Eagles as they shot just 24% from the field trailing by as many as 27 with 11 minutes remaining in the game. The Eagles cut the deficit down to 19 with seven straight points from Hamlin late in the second half and a Jackie Zizzo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) three-pointer with 11 seconds on the clock would bring the deficit down to 18 but it wasn't enough for the Lady Eagles.

Hamlin finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the losing effort while Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) scored 14 points.
