McCarthy Earns Skyline Player of the Week, Iavarone is Rookie of the Week

New York, N.Y. – St. Joseph's basketball student-athletes Sean McCarthy and Andrea Iavarone each earned Skyline Conference Weekly awards as announced this afternoon for the period ending February 15.  McCarthy, a senior forward, picks up the Skyline Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for the fourth time this season after averaging 21 points in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles.  Iavarone, a freshman forward, wins Skyline Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time after a period in which she averaged a double-double in a 1-1 week for her team.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Sean McCarthy – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Forward, Kings Park, NY/Kings Park HS
McCarthy averaged 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 15-of-26 from the field in a 2-0 week for St. Joseph's-L.I…scored a game-high 22 points and added eight boards on Feb. 11 in the Golden Eagles' 81-66 win over Maritime…had 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting on Feb. 14 as SJC posted a 92-58 victory against Mount Saint Vincent…had six three-pointers, four steals and committed just three turnovers in 65 minutes of action on the week…named the Skyline Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Andrea Iavarone – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, Forward, Miller Place, NY/Miller Place HS
Iavarone averaged 20.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Eagles…shot 16-of-31 from the field, including 8-for-11 from the line, and added five steals…scored a game-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds on Feb. 12 as St. Joseph's-L.I. earned a 60-44 win over Yeshiva…led SJC with 17 points and added 11 boards in a 69-51 loss to Mount Saint Vincent on Feb. 14…tabbed the Skyline Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.
