Andrea Iavarone Named to All-Skyline Conference Second Team

Press Release from the Skyline Conference

New York, N.Y. – Freshman forward Andrea Iavarone of the St. Joseph's College women's basketball team has earned a place on the All-Skyline Conference Second Team.

Junior guard Andrea Desvignes of Farmingdale State has been named the 2014-15 Skyline Women's Basketball Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's seven head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Mount Saint Vincent's Kelly Fraser as Defensive Player of the Year, Genevieve Schoff of Sage as Rookie of the Year and Farmingdale State's Chris Mooney as Coach of the Year.

The conference leader in both scoring (18.9 ppg.) and steals (4.17 spg.), Desvignes has scored at least 20 points on 12 different occasions entering the Rams' Skyline semifinal contest on Feb. 26 versus Mount Saint Mary.  The Deer Park, N.Y., resident leads Farmingdale State in both assists (89) and three-point field goals made (56) and averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in league play as FSC captured the Skyline regular season crown with a perfect 12-0 record.

A four-time Rookie of the Week selection, Schoff is averaging 8.4 points and 5.8 rebounds while adding 20 steals as Sage has won a program-best 18 games and will visit Mount Saint Vincent on Feb. 26 in the semifinals of the Skyline Championship.  A resident of Little Falls, N.Y., the freshman swingman has dished out 46 assists and compiled 17 blocked shots.

Fraser repeats Defensive Player of the Year as she leads the league in rebounding (11.9 rpg.) and ranks third in blocked shots (1.92 bpg.) while amassing 16 double-double performances.  The senior center is a three-time All-Skyline selection and is averaging 17.3 points per game, good for second in the conference.

Desvignes and Fraser are joined on the All-Conference first team by Crystal Barnes of Old Westbury; Mount Saint Vincent's Christina Barone; Megan Bowman of Sage; and Elizabeth Osowiecki of Purchase.

Joining Schoff on the second-team All-Conference is Farmingdale State's Nicole Lanteri; Amie Jefferson of Sage; Mount Saint Vincent's Brittany Carroll; Andrea Iavarone of St. Joseph's-L.I.; and Natalie Candarelli of Mount Saint Mary.

Now in his 15th season, Mooney has guided Farmingdale State to a 17-8 overall record and the top seed in this week's Skyline Championship following a perfect 12-0 conference season.  Mooney received his bachelor's degree in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz in 1997 and boasts a career record of 267-134.
