Women's Basketball Upended By Sage 57-43 in Skyline Conference Contest

Albany, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team (6-13, 3-7 Skyline) dropped a 57-43 decision to The Sage Colleges on Saturday afternoon inside Kahl Gym. The Gators improve to 16-2 and remain undefeated in the Skyline conference with a 12-0 record.

The Golden Eagles got off to a good start taking an 11-2 run into the fifth minute of the first quarter. Macie Holmes pulled the Gators within three (11-8) after making back-to-back three pointers with 4:29 left. Sage took its first lead of the game, 18-15, with a pair of three pointers by Frankie Pearson to close out the first quarter.

Sage carried its momentum into the second quarter as the Gators took a 10-3 run into the break, to hold a 28-18 lead over the Golden Eagles.

In the third quarter, Sage led by as much as 14 points, 36-22, after a made layup by Teagan Clough with 4:40 left in the quarter. After several exchanges of possession, the Gators ended the quarter with a 3-0 run to extend their lead 46-33.

St. Joseph's closed its gap to single digits (50-43) with a 6-0 run at the 5:52 mark. The Gators answered back with a 6-0 run to pull away with the 57-43 win.

Iavarone led the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Rynese Smith added nine points and 11 rebounds along with three steals.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Feburary 3 when they welcome Skyline rival SUNY Old Westbury to the Danzi Center for a 6:00 PM tip-off. Live stats will be available here.
