Women's Basketball Falls to Trinity College on Monday Night

Hartford, CT | The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by Trinity College, 90-49, in a non-conference matchup on Monday night in Hartford, CT. The Golden Eagles now slide to 3-7 while the Bantams improve to 9-2 on the season.

In a match that saw zero lead changes, Trinity College would get on board first courtesy of Rebecca Reifler jump shot a minute into the game. After falling behind 17-5 at 5:28, a three-pointer by Jennifer Gubell cut the Golden Eagles' deficit to nine points. The two sides then exchanged baskets before Trinity regained the 11-point lead (22-11) at the end of the quarter.

The Bantams maintained a double-digit lead (33-20) well into the second quarter, before exploding with a 13-0 run to put Trinity ahead 46-20 at the break.

The Bantams started the third quarter with a 6-0 run to increase the hosts' lead to 34 (54-20) at 7:51. Despite a three-point play by Alicia Indence that cut the Golden Eagles' deficit to 27, Trinity answered back with a 6-0 run to reestablish its commanding lead.

After entering the fourth quarter up 70-34, the Bantams took a 7-2 run into the 8:14 mark to extend their lead to 41 points (77-36). With 3:04 remaining in the match, Trinity would hold its largest lead (90-45) before earning the 90-49 win.

Andrea Iavarone led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 15 points and collected 10 rebounds in the contest. Indence dropped 13 points and led the team in assists with four.

The Golden Eagles shot just 38% from the field compared to Trinity's 49.4%. The Bantams also held advantages in rebounds (49-27) and assists (28-10).
