Albany,NY | The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by the Sage Colleges, 70-44, in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon inside the Kahl Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 4-8 (3-5 Skyline) while the Gators improve to 7-5 (4-2 Skyline).

In a match that saw zero lead changes, Sage would get on the board first courtesy of a Genevieve Schoff layup a minute into the game. Alicia Indence answered back with a jump shot to tie the game 2-2, but an 11-0 run by the Gators gave Sage a 13-2 lead at the 2:00 mark before closing out the quarter with a commanding 13-6 lead.

Sage maintained a double-digit lead (18-8) into the second quarter, before exploding with a 12-0 run to put the Gators ahead 30-10 at the 4:230 mark. The two sides then exchanged baskets before Sage headed into break with a 19-point lead.

The two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle to start the third quarter with the Gators taking their largest lead of the game, 48-25, with 3:05 on the clock. Andrea Iavarone and Jackie Zizzo would drain back-to-back baskets to cut the visitors' deficit to 52-32 at the end of the quarter.

The two teams would trade baskets as Sage would maintain a double-digit lead (56-34) midway through the final frame, until a Iavarone layup would start a 7-0 run for the Golden Eagles cutting their deficit to 15 (56-41). The two sides traded baskets once more until the final seconds as the Gators sailed to a 70-47 victory.

Iavarone led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 22 points in addition to adding nine rebounds and a block. Zizzo tallied 10 points and collected four rebounds.

The Golden Eagles shot just 35.2% from the field compared to the Gators' 35.7%. The Gators also held advantages in rebounds (58-28) and assists (16-9).

The Golden Eagles return home to the Danzi Center Monday, January 9 when they host College of Staten Island at 7:00pm. Live stats will be available here.
