Patchogue,NY | Senior Jackie Zizzo scored a career-best 30 points but it was not enough as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by the College of Staten Island, 74-54, in a non-conference matchup on Monday night inside the Danzi Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 4-9 while the Dolphins improve to 10-4.

Zizzo, who broke the single-game three-pointer record with eight tres in a victory over Yeshiva University on December 13, broke her own record with nine threes in the contest.

In a match that saw just one lead change, SJC would get on the board first courtesy of a Juliana Cintron-Leonardo layup two minutes into the game. Staten Island took a 17-0 run into the 4:11 mark of the first quarter and later capped off the frame with a 7-0 run.

Down 28-10 at 7:12 of the second quarter, the Golden Eagles sparked an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to 10 (28-18). After falling behind 32-18, the two sides exchanged baskets before Staten Island headed into break with a 14 point lead (35-21).

The Dolphins maintained a double-digit lead (45-30) well into the third quarter and later capped off the quarter with a 6-3 run to extend their lead once more to 21 (59-38).

Zizzo scored the first basket in the final quarter with a made three-pointer before Christina Pasaturo answered back with a made layup that sparked a 10-0 run as Dolphins took their largest lead of the contest (71-41). The Golden Eagles would close the game out with a 13-3 run, but it wasn't enough to overcome their deficit and would suffer a 74-54 defeat.

Iavarone tallied her ninth double-double dropping 12 points and contributing 17 rebounds in the contest.

The Golden Eagles shot just 30.9% from the field compared to the Dolphins' 48.2%. The Dolphins also held advantages in three-point field goal percentage (35.0%-31.4%) and assists (18-13).

The Golden Eagles hit the road on Wednesday, January 11 when they travel to take on Centenary at 6:00pm. Live video and stats will be available here.
