Women's Basketball Bested By Sage On Saturday Afternoon

 Patchogue, NY | The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by the Sage Colleges, 96-51, in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon inside the Danzi Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 6-15 (5-9 Skyline) while the Gators improve to 14-7 (10-4 Skyline).

In a match that saw zero lead changes, Sage would jump out to an 18-2 lead at the 5:56 mark, before a Jackie Zizzo three-pointer to ice the visitor's run.  The Gators pulled ahead to 20 points (30-10) before finally capping off the quarter with 37-16 lead.

The Gators made a strong defensive presence in the second quarter holding the SJC to just six points.  Sage sparked a 23-1 run to the 2:17 mark to exit the half with a 66-22 advantage over the hosts.

The two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle to start the third quarter until the 4:42 mark, with the Gators taking a 51-point lead with 4:16 on the clock. Sage scored the quarter's final basket to hold its commanding 86-31 lead.

Sage maintained its double-digit lead (93-33) at the 6:54 mark, as the Golden Eagles sparked an 18-3 run until the end of the match, but the Gators would come up on top with the win.  

Jennifer Gubell led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 14 points in addition to adding three rebounds. Zizzo tallied 11 points and collected two rebounds and two assists.

The Golden Eagles shot just 27.9% from the field compared to the Gators' 52.6%. The Gators also held advantages in rebounds (61-22) and assists (28-7). 

The Golden Eagles will hit the road to take on conference rival Mount St. Vincent on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:00pm. Live stats and video will be available
