Patchogue, NY| Senior Jackie Zizzo tallied 23 points (7 3FG) and became the program's all-time three-point field goal leader as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by SUNY Old Westbury, 88-51, on Senior Day Tuesday night inside the Danzi Center.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 6-17 (5-10) while the Panthers improve to 20-3 (13-3).
Zizzo, whose 78 three-pointers this season are in the top-10 in the nation, brings her career total to 187, one more than Christina Cohen (2010-14) who formerly held the record.
SJC would find itself with a 10-3 deficit early on at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter. Down 20-12 at 2:26, the Golden Eagles sparked an 8-0 run to close their gap to two (22-20) to cap off the first frame.
Trailing by four points (28-24) in the second frame, the Golden Eagles sparked a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the day (30-28). Alicia Indence drained a three ball in the final seconds of the half to send SJC into the break with a one-point lead (33-32).
The Panthers retook the lead in the third quarter courtesy of a Ruth Vargas layup 10 seconds into the game. Old Westbury would take an eight point lead (43-35), before going on a 20-2 run to close out the third frame with a 63-40 lead.
Old Westbury maintained a double-digit lead (65-45) into the fourth quarter, before exploding to a 15-0 run into the 3:38 mark. With less than a minute remaining in the game, Old Westbury would hold its largest lead (88-51) for the win.
The Golden Eagles shot just 28.8% from the field compared to the Panthers' 47.3%. The Panthers also held advantages in rebounds (58-24) and assists (15-14).
