Newark, NJ| Senior Andrea Iavarone grabbed a career-best 21 rebounds as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team took a 96-68 loss to Penn. State Abington at Rutgers-Newark's John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening.

The result ensures both the Golden Eagles and Nittany Lions move to 1-1 in their respective campaigns.

Iavarone recorded her second double-double of the season with a 15-point, 21-rebound effort. Junior Alicia Indence tallied 15 points and grabbed seven boards, and fellow classman N'Dea Maddox went for 14 points and four assists.

Penn State's Shayna Rodriguez shot 10-for-17 from the field and posted a game-high 27 points.

Doubled up after the first quarter (28-14), SJC had its deficit increased to 19 points (52-31) at the break but came out stronger in the third, scoring the quarter's first five points to cut the deficit to 16 (52-16).

Headed to the fourth, the Golden Eagles fell behind (75-51) and failed to make a dent in the Nittany Lions' advantage, eventually falling by a 96-68 scoreline.

St. Joseph's--outshot 47.3%-29.3%--could attribute its loss to poor shooting from the field but also struggled in the paint, having been outscored 46-20.

Iavarone's 21 rebounds accounted for 42% of SJC's 50 rebounds on the evening. Penn State was credited with 52.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, November 18, when they continue play at the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic with a 3:00 pm contest vs. host Rutgers-Newark. Follow the action live here.
