New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team slipped to 0-2 on the year on Saturday afternoon with a 83-67 road defeat to non-conference opponent John Jay College in Manhattan.

Sophomore Frank Basile shot 5-for-11 from the field and led the Golden Eagles in both points (12) and rebounds (6). Seniors Isaiah Moore (11 points) and Jarred Marrow (11 points), and sophomore Doug Niblock (10 points) also scored in double figures.

Senior Trey Kinard contributed eight points off the bench.

SJC took an early 11-8 lead 3:08 into the contest but was later engaged in a nearly two-minute deadlock with the Bloodhounds with score tied up at 18. The hosts carried the play through the first half's final eight minutes and eventually took a 38-30 advantage into the break.

Nearly three minutes into the second half SJC shaved a point off its halftime deficit (43-36), but ultimately it was John Jay that took a stranglehold of the contest, going up 14 points (70-56) with 5:35 to play in regulation before earning an 83-67 victory.

Outshot 38.1% to 33.9%, St. Joseph's only statistical victory came at the charity stripe where the Golden Eagles held a less-than-one point advantage (75.0%-74.1%).

Paramount to John Jay's win was its play in the paint, where the Bloodhounds outscored SJC 34-24 and grabbed 55 rebounds to St. Joseph's 33.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday November 21 for their home opener vs. Skyline Conference rival SUNY Maritime inside the Danzi Center at 7:00 pm. Follow the action live here.
