Women's Basketball Falters Against Mount Saint Mary College, 62-41

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference contest, 62-41, to Mount Saint Mary College Tuesday evening in the Danzi Center.

The Golden Eagles slide to 4-9 on the season and 1-6 in conference play as the Knights improve to 11-5 overall and 9-1 in Skyline action.

SJC was lead by freshman Jami Cardenas, who went 4-for-10 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line for 14 points. Senior Jennifer Gubell added nine points from the outside and senior Andrea Iavarone grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

The Knights were led by a pair of double-doubles from Jessica Rini and Kayla Cleare. Rini dropped in 12 points with 12 boards and Cleare added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Elizabeth Limonta and Lyndsay Pace contributed nine points apiece off the bench.

St. Joseph's held the Knights in check through most of the first half, but MSMC's Limonta broke a 14-14 stalemate, sparking a 12-0 run to put the Knights ahead 26-14 with just over two minutes to play in the second quarter. Following a bucket from Cardenas, Mount Saint Mary closed out the half with four unanswered and went into the locker room leading 30-16.

MSMC continued to maintain control of the game in the second half, building its largest lead of the night, 49-22, late in the third quarter. For the second consecutive night, the Golden Eagles outscored their opponent in the final quarter, but the Knights proved to be too much as they cruised to a 62-41 win.

As a team, SJC finished shooting 26.4% from the field while the Knights came away shooting 36.1%. MSMC controlled the post, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 51-34 with 36 points in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return the Danzi Center Saturday, January 20th when they host Trinity College. Tip-off is slated for 1:00pm.
