Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest

Brooklyn, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference game to St. Joseph's College (Brkln) 94-72 Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eagles slip to 7-12 on the season with a 4-8 conference mark.  The Bears move to 8-12 overall (6-7 Skyline).

Senior Andrea Iavarone, who finished with a triple-double of 25 points, 24 rebounds, and 10 blocks, became the second player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 career rebound mark.  In addition, her final block with just 17 seconds on the clock broke the individual-season record pushing her overall total to 48.

Fellow classman Jennifer Gubell recorded a career-high 27 points all coming from long distance. Her nine three-pointers on the night tied SJC's individual game record.

SJC-Brooklyn's Kelly O'Donnell had a game-high 35 points finishing 11-for-17 from the field.  Victoria Porcasi pitched in with 31 points and Caitlyn Staab added a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards.

The Golden Eagles trailed the Bears by only nine after the first quarter (22-13), but the hosts out-scored SJC-LI 23-10 in the second frame for a 55-23 lead into halftime.

A three-pointer from Gubell early in the third narrowed the gap to 19 (53-34), but that was the closest the Golden Eagles would get the rest of the way.   SJC-Brooklyn's advantage ballooned at 33 late in the fourth before the Golden Eagles knocked down 10 of the final 12 points of the game to make the final score, 92-72.

The Bears out-shot the Golden Eagles 46.7% to 32.9% while holding a 42.9% to 27.0% edge beyond the arc.  SJC-LI won the battle of the boards 52 to 44, but the home team held a 40-18 advantage in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center Thursday, Feb. 8 when they host Yeshiva University.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
