Women's Basketball Suffers Loss at USMMA

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team was defeated by the United States Merchant Marine Academy on the road Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles slip to 8-14 on the season with a 5-10 Skyline Conference mark. The Mariners move to 15-7 overall and 11-5 in conference play.

SJC was paced by senior Andrea Iavarone matching the game-high with 17 points and completing the double-double with 12 rebounds. Junior N'Dea Maddox pitched in with nine points and three assists.

USMMA had a pair finish in double figures with Taylor Hightower recording a double-double of 17 points and 13 boards.  Kaleigh D'Arcy dropped in 16 points with seven rebounds and four assists.

The Mariners led wire to wire holding the Golden Eagles to just 11 points on 20% shooting through the first half taking a commanding 33-11 lead into the break.

St. Joseph's came back from halftime with some fire outscoring the home team 21-19, but the Merchant Marines were able to maintain their distance and cruise to a 64-39 win.

USMMA outshot the Golden Eagles 40.6% to 25.0% from the field and 28.6% to 15.4% from beyond the arc with SJC holding an 84.6% to 57.1% advantage from the charity stripe.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to take on Sarah Lawrence College Thursday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
