Women's Basketball Falls to Manhattanville in Season Opener

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team took a 65-37 loss to Manhattanville College in its 2018-19 season opener Saturday afternoon.

Junior Cailee Greco paced the Golden Eagles with 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds. Senior Alicia Indence and freshman Alyssa Signor finished with eight points apiece with junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo pitching in with six points off the bench. The forward also recorded a team-best 10 boards with two assists.

Kayleah McGuire led the Valiants with 18 points with Sarah Coutu adding 17 points with five assists and four steals.

After trailing 46-18 through the first half, SJC held Manhattanville to just seven points in the third quarter moving the score to 53-27.

The Valiants went on to outscore the Golden Eagles 12-10 in the fourth frame to capture the 65-37 win.

Manhattanville led wire-to-wire shooting 41.8% from the field while holding SJC to 30%. The Valiants were also dominant in the paint outscoring the Golden Eagles 50-22.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Friday, November 16 when they face Hunter College on day one of the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament at 5:00 pm.
