Women's Basketball Falls to Hunter in Tip-Off Tournament

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped an 84-65 decision to Hunter College in the opening game of the Hunter College Alumni Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening.

The Golden Eagles move to 2-0 on the season as the Hawks even out at 1-1.

Freshman Alyssa Signor led the SJC offense with a team-best 20 points off 7-for-15 shooting from the field. Senior N'Dea Maddox shot 6-for-10 for 15 points while junior Cailee Greco pitched in with 13 points. Junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo registered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

 Hunter's Jade Aponte led all players with 28 points with an 11-for16 performance from the field including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Phoebe Valenton finished with 17 points and eight steals with Janine Conway and Ashley Arias contributing 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In a game that saw Hunter lead from beginning to end, the Hawks recorded a 52. 4% from the field while holding the Golden Eagles to 49.1%. The home team also held an advantage in the paint, grabbing 32 boards to SJC's 25 and outscoring the guests 48-36 down low.

St. Joseph's returns to Hunter College and continues play at the Alumni Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, November 17 when they face either Denison University or Worcester St. University at 12:00 pm.
