Women's Basketball Downed by Purchase

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball return from the winter break with a 72-40 loss to Skyline Conference foe Purchase College Thursday evening in the Danzi Center.

The Golden Eagles slide to 2-9 on the season with a 1-4 mark in conference play. The win puts the Panthers at 6-5 overall, 4-2 Skyline.

Senior Alicia Indence led the Golden Eagles knocking down 11 points with a 4-for-4 performance from the free throw line. Freshman Alyssa Signor pitched in with eight points and three steals. Senior N'Dea Maddox and junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo contributed seven points apiece with the latter grabbing a team-best eight boards.

The Panthers were led by a 24-point showing from Amber Jones. The guard finished 10-for-17 from the field with seven rebounds and three steals. Nyasia Harris added 11 points with a game-high 14 boards. Dejeana Peoples rounded out the top scorers with eight points.

As a team, the Panthers shot 38.5% from the field while holding the Golden Eagles to just 24.6%. The visitors dominated down low outrebounding St. Joseph's 56-39 and held a 40-16 margin in the paint.

The Golden Eagles continue Skyline action as they travel to the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday, January 5. Game time is set for 2:30 pm.
