Women’s Basketball Drops Skyline Contest at Mt. St. Mary

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered an 85-39 defeat to Mount St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference road contest on Tuesday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 2-14 on the year and 1-9 in Skyline play as the Knights improve to 13-4 (10-0 Skyline).

Junior Laura Falacara led the Golden Eagles with a career-high 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Freshman Alyssa Signor scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo went for five points and four rebounds, and N'Dea Maddox contributed seven points (3-for-8 FG) off the bench.

The Knights were powered by Lauren Desrats and Kayla Cleare, who each scored a game-best 14 points apiece. Cleare completed the double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles started off strong and took a 9-2 lead 4:12 into regulation when senior Alicia Indence converted on a layup, but the hosts rallied and scored 15 of the next 19 points to take a 17-13 leads into the second quarter.

After taking a 40-23 lead into the break, the Knights cruised through the third quarter before limiting the Golden Eagles to just five points in the fourth en route to an 85-39 win.

SJC struggled from the field, shooting just 28.3% in comparison to MSMC's 52.9%. St. Joseph's only statistical edge came from beyond the arc, where it outshot the Knights 33.3% to 31.8%.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 19 when they visit Trinity College for a non-conference contest at 1:00 pm.
