Women’s Basketball Downed by USMMA

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team slipped to 3-16 (2-10 Skyline) overall on the year on Tuesday evening when it suffered a 69-37 defeat to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (16-1, 12- Skyline) in Kings Point.

An SJC offense that shot 25% from the field was led by freshman Alyssa Signor, who shot 2-for-3 from three and scored a team-high 12 points.

Senior Alicia Indence contributed 10 points and junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo went for eight points and five rebounds.

The Mariners were powered by Kaleigh D'Arcy, who tallied a game-high 21 points. Lauren Hunter scored 13 points and grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds.

The guests' struggles came early and managed just four points in the first quarter. By halftime, SJC was facing a 15-point deficit (32-17), and despite outscoring the Mariners 16-11 in the third quarter, succumbed to a 32-point defeat (69-37) at the final buzzer.

In light of being outshot 39.7% to 25.0% from the field, SJC was the better team from the charity stripe where it held a 77.8% to 62.5% shooting percentage advantage.  

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, January 31 when they host SUNY Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:30 pm.
