Women's Basketball Hangs on for 68-67 Win Over Purchase

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball held off SUNY Purchase for a 68-67 Skyline Conference win on Saturday afternoon.

The win moves the Golden Eagles to 4-11 on the season and 2-8 in Skyline action. The Panthers slide to 2-12 overall, 1-8 Skyline.

Freshman Alyssa Adomaites played all 40 minutes and led the Golden Eagles with 23 points with five rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore Alyssa Signor recorded 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting while dishing a team-best five assists and seven rebounds. Freshman Julianna Knice finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Shadai Plowden led the Panthers with a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Arta Krasniqi pitched in with 11 points with Dejeana Peoples and Amber Rodriguez added 10 points apiece.

In a game that saw five lead changes, the Golden Eagles trailed by as many as five after Jazzmyne Hernandez knocked down a three in the second quarter, 31-26. A 16-2 run in favor of the Golden Eagles closed out the half and sent SJC into the break leading 42-34.

Despite being outscored 20-15 in the third quarter, the Golden Eagles took a slight 57-54 advantage into the final frame. Signor scored in the opening seconds bumping the score to 59-54, but neither side would manage to score for two minutes until Juliana Cintron-Leonardo dished to Megan Steinman at the 7:48 mark. Later in the quarter, Purchase's Alfa DeJesus made one of two free throws to make it a one-point game, 65-64, with 24 seconds on the clock. Free throws from SJC's Adomaites and Knice provided some breathing room moving the score to 68-64 with six seconds left and despite Purchase's Rodriguez hittinng a three in the final seconds to pull within one, 68-67, St. Joseph's managed to hang on for the conference win.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Wednesday, January 22 when they host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 5:30 pm.
