Balanced Scoring Takes Down Mt. St. Mary

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team took down Mt. St. Mary College 68-63 in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 6-13 on the season with a 4-10 conference record. The Knights suffered its first Skyline defeat and slide to 14-1 in conference, 16-4 overall.

Freshman Alyssa Adomaites led the Golden Eagles with 18 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field while dishing five assists.

Sophomore Megan Steinman added 13 points with eight rebounds. Sophomore Alyssa Signor finished with a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Catherine Siounis rounded out the top scorers with 12 points and seven boards.

MSMC's Morina Bojka led all players with 20 points. Lauren Desrats finished with 15 points. Toriana Tabasco dished nine assists.

The Golden Eagles opened the game with back-to-back threes from Steinman and maintained a lead throughout the first half.

The Knights managed just five points in the opening frame on 12.5% shooting from the field. In addition to Steinman's six points, Signor added five with freshman Margaret Kopcienski adding three to give the Golden Eagles a 14-5 lead heading into the second quarter.

MSMC's Bojka was responsible for 15 of the Knights 18 points in the second quarter to send the teams into the break with the Golden Eagles leading 27-23.

The Knights took its first lead of the day in the third quarter following a pair of free throws by Tabasco at the 7:20 mark and went on to outscore SJC 21-17 in the frame to go into the fourth all tied at 44.

The Golden Eagles opened the final frame on an 8-0 run to jump ahead 52-44. The Knights chipped away at the SJC lead to reach within two, 63-61, with less than a minute on the clock. Free throws from Adomaites and Signor down the stretch iced the game for the Golden Eagles securing the 68-62 win.

St. Joseph's finished shooting 48.1% from the field while holding the Knights to just 30.4%.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Wednesday, February 5 when they host SUNY Purchase at 5:30 pm.
