LAX Concludes Successful First Season, Awaits ECAC Bid

Patchogue, N.Y. - With record breaking performances from Lisa Terry and Nicole Lyman, and with Colleen Fitzsimons starting in goal in place of injured goalie Erin O'Connor, the Lady Eagles from St. Joseph's College celebrated Senior Day with a 16 - 8 win over Rutgers-Camden.

The Eagles concluded their Skyline Conference schedule with a surprising 6-2 record and stand 9-8 overall as they await a possible bid to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament, which will be announced on Monday, May 7th.

On a day in which the program's first three graduating seniors - Alyssa Cordano, Michelle Gulino and Jackie Myers - motivated the team to guarantee a winning season, five different players scored goals.

It was a pair of freshmen who got the ball rolling- Terry, with a record breaking eight goals started it all off at 28:54, followed by Caitlynn Webber a minute later. After a Rutgers-Camden goal by Clara Green, Terry and Webber repeated their act, first Terry at 22:19 from Karalyn Tetelman, then Webber for her second from Terry with 18 minutes left in the half. Forty-five seconds later Terry added her third goal of the day to give SJC a 5-1 margin.

After a three-goal run in under two minutes by Rutgers-Camden, Terry scored on a free position shot at 9:17 for a 6-4 lead.  Rutgers tied the game after two quick goals, but senior Jackie Myers, off a pass from Webber at 1:43 gave the Eagles a halftime lead of 7-6.

At halftime, the parents of the three seniors were introduced and the energy from the senior recognition ceremony seemed to spark the team as they proceeded to score the first seven goals of the second half to take control of the game. It was Terry again who started and finished the run, scoring at 27:45 to open the half. Grace Ann Fallon on a nice running shot at 23:00 and then Terry, Myers again, and Webber for her third time gave St. Joseph's a 12-6 lead at the 18:40 mark.

Terry scored back-to-back goals, and with 11:22 remaining the Lady Eagles had their largest margin of the day at 14-6.  The team's would split the final four goals, highlighted by seniors Myers (9:59) and Gulino (5:28) scoring back-to-back goals for St. Joseph's.

Colleen Fitzsimons had her biggest game of the year with nine saves on the day, yielding just eight goals. Nicole Lyman led the way with five caused turnovers and nine draw controls.

As their first season draws to a close and they find out if there are more games to play, the Lady Eagles rang us some impressive numbers this year.

Terry's 64 goals were #2 in the Skyline Conference and currently rank #26 in all of Division III.  Her shooting percentage is 53.8% and her 13 assists total for 77 points. She was an impressive 21 of 35 ((60%) on free position shots. Lyman is ranked nationally at #32 in caused turnovers.

Cait Webber had a fabulous freshman season, scoring 33 goals (50%) with seven assists plus a very strong performance in the draw circle, earning 55 draw controls for the year.  She also shot 50% on free position shots (3-of-6).

Karalyn Tetelman ran the offensive midfield with a strong showing of 24 goals ((57.1%) and seven assists. She shot an amazing 9-of-12 (75%) on free position shots. Jackie Myers was the fourth player with over 20 goals, netting 21 goals (53.8%) and 10 assists on the season.

Seven other Lady Eagles scored multiple goals this year, led by Grace Ann Fallon with seven, then Michelle Gulino, Alyssa Cordano and Nicole Lyman with five each, and middies Gabby Bourguignon and Cait Halloran with four each. Margot Howard scored a pair of goals and Amanda Baron, Shanise Brown, and Erin Sullivan each netted one goal. Halloran and Howard each added four assists and Gulino had three of her own.

Nicole Lyman led the team in draw controls with 57, Webber was next at 55 and Gulino third at 20. Lyman led the team with 36 caused turnovers, with Amanda D'Onofrio second with 19, Michelle Gulino next with 16 and Amanda Baron with 14. Megan Lapham, Cait Halloran and Jackie Baratelli each had 9.

Lyman also led the team with 40 ground balls, Gulino was next with 35 then D'Onofrio with 24.

Erin O'Connor had a 44.9% save percentage with Colleen Fitzsimons at 43.1%.  O'Connor totaled 109 saves on the year and Fitzsimons 28.
