Lax Explodes for 17 Goals in Manhattanville Win

Purchase, N.Y. - St. Joseph's College (6-3) women's lacrosse team beat Manhattanville (1-7) 17-8 in a road game as they dominated the Valiants with a stifling defense.

The Lady Eagles started off the game with Lisa Olen scoring an unassisted goal just one and a half minutes into the game, and then Olen found Danielle Dittmeier inside the crease just two minutes later.  Manhattanville came back to make it 2-1 , but then Caitlynn Webber won the ensuing draw and scored an unassisted goal to start a four-goal outburst by the Golden Eagles.

Heather Ferchland followed up with a goal off a feed from Jackie Myers, and then Webber scored again from Jess Cordano.  Twenty-two seconds later Cordano streaked in all alone and drilled a shot into the opposite corner to give the Lady Eagles a 6-1 lead with 16:37 left in the first half.

Manhattanville's Casandra Honovich scored her second goal to make it 6-2 and then the floodgates opened up for the Golden Eagles.   Grace Ann Fallon found Jackie Myers for a goal at 14:40 and then Fallon followed it up with an unassisted goal just twenty-five seconds later. Karalyn Tetelman scored an unassisted goal at 12:56 and then Myers scored again on a nice pass from Olen.  The Golden Eagles ended the half with three unassisted goals, the first by Webber, the next one by Gina Guardino, and finally, Erin Sullivan with thirty-five seconds left in the half to make it 13-2 Lady Eagles.

Colleen Fitzsimons took over in goal for the visitors and ran into bad luck, as the Valiants received four free position shots in the first ten minutes of the half, and with an additional goal being scored while SJC could score just once, so the lead was cut to 14 -7 with 18 minutes left in the game.

St. Joseph's rebounded to score three goals in a row and put the game away.  Heather Ferchland scored unassisted; then Jackie Myers got her third goal of the game off an assist from Webber. Tetelman closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 4:30 left.  Mallory Bakst ended the scoring on the day for Ramapo with 2:47 left to make it the final 17 - 8.

Erin O'Connor had three saves while allowing three goals for St. Joseph's in 48 minutes of action. Amanda Baron led the defense with three caused turnovers, while Lyman added two more. Webber and Myers each had three goals and an assist, while Guardino, Ferchland, and Tetelman each scored twice.  Ferchland, Webber and Lyman each had three draw controls. Manhattanville won the draw battle 16 -11 and St. Joseph's ended up with 29 shots to 21 for the Valiants.

Next up for the Lady Eagles is a home game vs. Skyline Conference-foe Ramapo College of New Jersey on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Danzi Stadium.
