Dittmeier Leads SJC with Six Goals Against Ramapo

Patchogue, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team moved to a perfect 4-0 in the Skyline Conference and 7-3 overall and extended their winning streak to three games on Wednesday night vs. Ramapo College. Freshman attackman Danielle Dittmeier scored six goals in the game to lead SJC.  Dittmeier and sophomore defender Nicole Lyman each scored unassisted goals in the first forty seconds of the game to set the tone for the Golden Eagles.

Although Ramapo's freshman sensation Lindsay Hughes would make it 2 - 1, the Lady Eagles scored the next four goals starting with Gina Guardino, also unassisted at 27:47.   With Caitlynn Webber controlling the draw, Karalyn Tetelman was able to score twenty-four seconds later off a great feed from Jackie Myers. The Golden Eagles continued their pressure, and Dittmeier scored again off a pass from Guardino.  Myers, the leading assist player on St. Joseph's found a favorite target in Heather Ferchland, and St. Joseph's had a 6 – 1 lead.

After seven goals in the first 7:30, the game slowed down and there were no goals for the next seven minutes until Ramapo's Taylor Jade Nicholas broke the drought.  Dittmeier found the back of the net again off a nice pass from Cait Halloran, and then the Golden Eagles ended the half with three goals in a two minute and twelve second stretch.  Guiardino found Ferchland in the middle, then Dittmeier with her fourth goal of the half, and finally Webber unassisted with 3:30 left in the half to make it 10 -2 St. Joseph's at halftime.

The Golden Eagles started the second half the way they ended the first, with four goals in the first nine minutes to put the game out of reach.  Dittmeier started it off with a free position shot, followed by Myers, also from the 8-meter line just forty-four seconds later. Webber found Dittmeier inside for her sixth goal of the game, a season-high for a St. Joseph's player. Webber followed it up herself off the feed from Myers, who had her team leading 16th assist. Myers broke the season assist record, and should continue to add to that total as the season goes on.

Grace Ann Fallon drilled a goal into the corner of the net off a feed from Jess Cordano at 16:34 left and Cordano closed out the scoring for St. Joseph's via an unassisted goal with 2:36 left after Ramapo had scored three straight to make a small run.

Nicole Lyman led the defensive effort with a monster night - six caused turnovers, four draw controls, five ground balls and a goal.  Amanda D'Onofrio was also huge, with five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Amanda Baron again drew a charge on an opposing player for the fourth straight game. The Golden Eagles welcomed back starting crease defender Megan Lapham, after missing three games due to a hamstring pull.

Erin O'Connor recorded three saves in goal, while the Golden Eagles held advantages in draw controls (13-10), shots (47-10), and ground balls (22-10).  Reagan Vier had an outstanding game in goal for Ramapo with 24 saves.  Lindsay Hughes led the team with four goals and an assist, plus a game-high nine draw controls.

St. Joseph's now has a week off and will be back in action on Friday, April 5 at 5 p.m. in another Skyline conference game vs. Sage.  Before the game, the Lady Eagles will be giving a clinic to Special Needs students from the Land and Sea Program, located in Suffolk County.
