Lacrosse Edged Only by Farmingdale in 2014 Skyline Coaches Preseason Poll

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Vying for its first league crown since 2009, Farmingdale State has been selected to capture the 2014 Skyline women's lacrosse title in voting conducted by the league's eight head coaches. 

FSC earned five first-place votes and 47 overall points to edge St. Joseph's-L.I., which garnered three first-place votes and 45 total points. 

The Rams compiled a 15-3 overall mark in 2013 and welcome back their top two returning scorers in junior All-Conference selections Nicole Marzocca (92 points) and Christy Thoden (92 points).  Marzocca tallied a team-high 58 goals a year ago, while Thoden amassed 54 assists and 127 draw controls en route to earning IWLCA All-Region distinction. 

St. Joseph's-L.I. has recorded 21 victories in its first two years as a varsity program and welcomes back a pair of first-team All-Conference honorees in junior defender Nicole Lyman and sophomore attack Heather Ferchland.  Lyman led the Golden Eagles in both draw controls (67) and caused turnovers (47) in 2013, while Ferchland scored a team-best 62 goals. 

Coming off its first-ever 10-win campaign, Mount Saint Mary is third in the poll with 37 points, followed by Mount Saint Vincent (29), Sage (22), Maritime (21), Old Westbury (12) and Purchase (8). 

The semifinals of the four-team 2014 Skyline Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 23, with the finals scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 26.
