Lacrosse Can’t Contain Geneseo Offense

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles (1-1) got off to a good start scoring the first goal of the game but the Geneseo Knights (1-0) caught fire offensively sealing a 14-4 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./Centereach) opened the scoring for the Lady Eagles just a minute and a half into the game on an assist from Tori Gregson (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) but the Knights responded with three goals in the next five minutes. Kristine Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) brought the Eagles within one with her unassisted goal with just 11 minutes remaining in the first half. With their lead cut down to one, the Knights scored three more goals to close out the half with a 6-2 lead.

The Knights kept up the same pace in the second half, scoring four goals in the first nine minutes of the half. SJC got one back with 20 minutes left when Ferchland returned the favor to Gregson, who fired the ball into the back of the net. Ferchland grabbed another goal late in the second half on an assist from Kacie Mitterando (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) but the Eagles still trailed 11-4 and the Knights tacked on three more before the final whistle.

Ferchland finished with two goals and one assist and freshman goalkeeper Courtney Wickline (Medford, N.Y./Bellport) made 13 saves for the Eagles.
