Lacrosse Clinches Skyline Tourney Top Seed With Perfect Conference Season

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Golden Eagles women's lacrosse team (11-4, 7-0 SKY) completes a perfect conference season, winning all seven Skyline games, including their 19-13 victory over the Mount Saint Mary Knights (7-9, 5-2 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon in their final contest of the 2014-15 regular season.

With the win, the Golden Eagles advance to the Skyline Conference Tournament Semifinals as the top-seed for the first time.  They will play the no. 4 Purchase Panthers (11-3, 4-3 Skyline) this Wednesday at Danzi Stadium with a 7:00 p.m. start.  Mount Saint Mary will be the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Farmingdale State. The finals are scheduled to be played on Saturday afternoon at the highest remaining seed.

Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./Centereach) headed the win with four goals and two assists, finishing the regular season with a team-leading 54 points. Ferchland had multi-score performances in each game this year, including seven games with four or more goals.

Against the Knights, the Golden Eagles had diversified scoring, as Meaghan Haber (East Northport, N.Y./ John Glenn), Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y./ Eastport-South Manor), and Tricia Barrett (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North) all recorded hat tricks.

SJC got off to a quick 5-3 start over the home team, and refused to relinquish the lead for the entire contest.

With less than three minutes remaining in the first period Webber, Haber, and Ferchland scored three unanswered goals to give SJC a 12-8 lead going into halftime.

After intermission, the Knights scored two goals to cut the deficit to three, but St. Joseph's responded with a 5-1 run after Barrett converted off a Graceann Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y./ Kings Park) helper for an 18-11 lead, the largest of the game.

SJC goalkeeper Courtney Wickline (Medford, N.Y./ Bellport) stationed the Golden Eagle defense, blocking five shots to earn the win.

St. Joseph's will be tested in the semifinals against the Purchase Panthers, who will seek to avenge their 19-4 loss against the Eagles back in their last meeting on April 18.
