Women’s Lax Breezes Past MSMC for 7th-Straight Win

Patchogue, NY| Tricia Barrett and Meaghan Haber each tallied four goals apiece as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team defeated Mount St. Mary College 19-6 at home on Saturday afternoon to win its seventh-straight game. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 9-4 on the year and remain unbeaten (5-0) in Skyline Conference play. The Knights slide to 5-8 (0-4 Skyline) with the loss.

After Mary's tallied the game's first goal (Kayla Goman, 27:30), the Golden Eagles rallied for seven-straight marks over the next 14 minutes as Haber (3), Barrett (2), Kristin Carroll and Heather Ferchland found the back of the net.

MSMC's Katie Gattoni ended SJC's run at 10:22 to cut the deficit to five goals (7-2). Ferchland netted the next tally (8:31), which as matched by Jen Gries' goal two minutes later, but St. Joseph's recorded five unanswered goals—Barrett (2), Jenna Kelleher (2) and Ferchland) in the final 6:12 of the half to take a 13-3 lead into the break.

A pair of tallies from Jessica Cordano inside the opening two minutes of the second half extended the Golden Eagles' lead to 12 (15-3), and after MSMC's Claire Duffy scored at 21:51 it became a 13-goal lead when Carroll and Haber broke through at 20:41 and 15:50.

Gattoni netted a pair at 14:14 and 13:05, but it was Kelleher (8:56) and Nicole Stoppelli (6:54) who wrapped the game's scoring as SJC eased to a 19-6 victory.

Kepper Lindsay Ramos earned the win and made one save in 42:47 of action, and Darrien Diaz collected three saves in 17:13 of relief work. MSMC's Amanda Picillo was credited with five saves in a losing effort.

Barrett and Haber's four goals each brought their season goal totals to 19, while Kelleher's trio of scores gives the sophomore 23 on the year. Ferchland's three goals bring her team-high total to 35, and Carroll's pair has her in second with 24 tallies.

Cordano collected four assists and currently leads the Skyline Conference with 32 in total. The senior also claimed five ground balls and caused four turnovers.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 26 when they travel to the Bronx to face Skyline rival SUNY Maritime at 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available here
