Hartwick Outlasts Women’s Lacrosse on Sunday

Patchogue, NY Despite an early 2-0 lead the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team suffered a 9-6 defeat at the hands of Hartwick College at Danzi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss the Golden Eagles slip to 0-2 on the year as the Hawks open their season with a 1-0 mark.

Junior midfielder Kristin Carroll led SJC with two goals on six shots in the match. Emily Fey, Diana Johnston, Brooke Kreuscher and Nicole Stoppelli also recorded goals in the match.

Keeper Lindsay Ramos was credited with four saves on 13 shots.

Fey opened the scoring 2:08 into the game and Johnston's tally at 24:32 doubled the hosts' lead.

Two minutes later Hartwick's Lauren Rosenberg found goal and sparked a 6-0 run by the Hawks who went up 6-2.

Kreuscher tallied her first goal of the year with 1:40 to play in the half, but Ashley Werner's goal with 15 seconds remaining ensured Hartwick took a 7-3 lead into the break.

Stoppelli and Carroll scored back-to-back goals early in the second to cut the SJC deficit to two goals (7-5).

Hartwick's Hailey Pooler got one back at 11:33 and it was matched by Carroll's second at 8:56. Ashley Werner would be credited with the game's final tally when she found the twine with 2:48 remaining.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 8 when they host FDU-Florham for a non-conference contest at 4:00pm. Live stats will be available here.
