Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team offered its support to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts by collecting and donating supplies to those affected.

The team, along with first-year head coach Kristen Znaniecki, made the donations on Friday, September 15.

"In times of tragedy, the competitive nature of any athlete is directed towards compassion," said Znaniecki. "Our program is compelled to help fellow lacrosse players who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey."

"This is a great opportunity to spread the love we have for this sport with others who have the same passion for lacrosse," stated senior Maygan Forssell.

Not only does Coach Znaniecki value the opportunity to give back to the community, but she feels the experience works well as a team-building exercise--a sentiment junior midfielder Nicole Stoppelli mirrored.

"The team feels that in sports, as in life, if we all work towards a common goal of making a difference, positive things will happen," added Stoppelli. "It's a great feeling to be able to be a part of an amazing program that always seeks to help others in need."

"We hope that our donation will bring light and hope of a positive future to these families. Our thoughts and prayers are with all hurricane victims who were affected," added Znaniecki.
