Seven Members of Women's Lax Appear on Skyline All-Conference Teams
New York, NY| Seven members of the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team, which finished runner-up to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, earned Skyline All-Conference accolades on Monday afternoon including First-Team selections Lauryn Gregson, Nicole Stoppelli and Chelsea Tarazona.
In her junior season, Stoppelli went for 41 goals and 41 assists to set a new program single-season record of 82 points. The midfielder ranked second in the conference in total assists, total points and assists-per-game (2.41). Stoppelli, a First-Team selection for the second-straight season, was also second in the conference in caused turnovers-per-game.
Gregson finished third on the team in both goals (36) and points (54) in a breakout season. The East Islip, NY native tallied six goals and six points as a freshman a year ago and became an integral component of the SJC offense in 2018.
A First-Team selection for the second time in as many years, Tarazona finished second on the team in both ground balls (40) and caused turnovers (28). The senior defender started in all 17 games and tallied three goals and two assists.
Gracing the Second-Team was senior Kristin Carroll, who posted career-best numbers in goals (55), points (70), ground balls (32), draw controls (67) and shots (124). The midfielder, who has earned Second-Team accolades in all four seasons of her collegiate career, ranked third in the conference in total goals.
Additionally, senior midfielder Melanie Cervone, senior attack Ally Johnston and junior keeper Lindsay Ramos also earned Second-Team honors. Cervone went for 18 draw controls, 16 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and seven points in 16 games and Johnston collected career-best totals in goals (27), points (30) and ground balls (22).
Starting in all 17 of SJC's games in goal, Ramos posted an 8-9 record with a 10.76 goals-against average and a .402 save percentage. The Farmingdale, NY native's goals against average was bested in the conference only by USMMA's Hannah Gizzi (6.83).
After posting a 5-2 regular-season conference record, the Golden Eagles entered the conference championship tournament as the third seed and knocked off second-seeded Farmingdale in the semis. SJC would eventually suffer a 13-10 defeat to USMMA in Saturday's conference final.
