Women's Lacrosse Topped by Kean

Union, NJ| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team suffered a 14-8 non-conference loss at Kean University on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles even out at 1-1 on the season as the Cougars move to 1-4.

Senior Nicole Stoppelli recorded a game-best five points on three goals and two assists with three ground balls.

Junior Diana Johnson pitched in with two goals and four draw controls. Sophomore Tori Staker also added two goals with five draw controls and two ground balls.

Despite scoring first, SJC found themselves trailing after three unanswered Kean goals. The two sides traded goals through the midway the half before Stoppelli dished to Johnston inching the Golden Eagles to within two, 6-4. The Cougars ended the frame with back-to-back goals to go into the break leading 8-4.

The Cougars opened the second frame on a 3-0 run to take their largest lead of day, 11-4. Stoppelli scored twice to cut the SJC deficit to five, 11-6, but that would be as close as they would get as Kean cruised to a 14-8 win.

Kean was led by Katie Pileggi with three goals. Dana Meehan and Danni LeSaint finished with two goals and two assists apiece.

SJC's keeper Lindsay Ramos finished with nine saves on the day with her counterpart Josie Pagano collecting 12.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 20 when they travel to Manhattanville College. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
