Eagles Squeeze Past Farmingdale for Big Skyline Win

Patchogue, N.Y. - After last year's painful loss to Farmingdale State (4-5, 0-1 SKY), the St. Joseph's women's soccer team (7-2, 2-0 SKY) went into Wednesday's game with a chip on their shoulder; and they came out with a 1-0 victory, to remain perfect in Skyline play.

The Golden Eagles struck early as freshman Jamianne Eden (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) scored off junior Samantha Garcia's (Central Islip, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) pass from 12 yards out at the 3:32 mark of the game. St. Joseph's held a 6-5 shot advantage in the first half and took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Although the final 86 minutes of the game did not yield any more goals, the play was consistently aggressive and fast paced.

Framingdale took a perilous run down to the Eagles goal in the final seconds but junior goalkeeper Kayla Flowers (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) made a dramatic diving save of the Ram's Ashlee Thompson's shot to the lower left corner as the horn sounded to end the game.  That was Flowers seventh save of the game, and consequently, her fourth recorded shutout of the young season.

Farmingdale State outshot the Eagles 17-10 in the game.

Up next for SJC is another critical Skyline game with Mount Saint Mary (6-2-1, 2-0 SKY) this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Danzi Stadium.  The Eagles and Blue Knights each hold a share of first place with Sage and Purchase – all with unblemished 2-0 conference records.
