Defense Prevails as Lady Eagles Tie Gators

Patchogue, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's women's soccer team (9-5-3, Skyline 3-2-1) celebrated Senior Day with a 0-0 tie with second place Sage (4-6-1, Skyline 4-1-1). At halftime, the Lady Eagles honored their five seniors, Kimberly Essig (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford), Michelle Barclay (Holbrook, N.Y. / Sachem North), Allison Frabrizio (Islip, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist), Caitlin Halloran (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford), and Ashley George (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Islip).
The game was a battle for possession early on with both teams getting a couple shots on goal. Kayla Flowers (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) came up big with three saves in the opening half. The second half and two over time periods favored the Eagles who out-shot the Gators 18-6. Nicole Lyman (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) had an amazing shot from way beyond the box that would have netted if not for an acrobatic save by the Sage goalie.
In the end St. Joseph's managed 10 shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net. Sophomore Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) led all players with four shots but three of them were saved by Sage. Kayla Flowers ended the day with five saves on her way to another shutout.
The next game for the Lady Eagles is October 15, at New Jersey City (5-9-2). The last time these two teams met was 2010 when the Gothic Knights defeated St. Joseph's, 2-1.
