Lady Eagles Make It Three Straight in Rout of Old Westbury

Patchogue, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (7-4) soared over Old Westbury (6-4) on Wednesday night on their way to a 4-0 thrashing. The shutout was perhaps their most impressive victory of the season against an Old Westbury team that was undefeated in Skyline Conference games coming into the matchup. Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) led the Eagles with her second straight two-goal game.

In what was expected to be a highly contested Skyline matchup, The Eagles wasted no time in proving that they were the superior team. Samantha Garcia (Central Islip, N.Y./St. John The Baptist), in her first game back from an injury, put a through ball into the box that left Martino one-on-one with the keeper and she capitalized giving the Golden Eagles the early advantage just nine minutes into the match. Several minutes later, Martino had two more chances but she put them both wide.

Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) brought the home crowd to their feet when she struck the ball from 30 yards out past the outstretched arms of the Old Westbury keeper at the 16:34 mark of the first half.

The Lady Eagles would make it 3-0 in the 35th minute when Katelyn Chiasera (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) gave the ball to wide open Martino, who drilled it under the arms of the sliding goalkeeper. Chiasera would add one more for St. Joseph's late in the second half as she chipped the keeper for her first goal of the season.

Cristiana Votta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) had her third straight clean sheet as most of the action took place in the Eagles attacking half. The offense was relentless with 18 shots that kept the Old Westbury keeper busy all night.

The Eagles will travel to Albany, N.Y. on Sunday to take on Sage.
