W. Soccer Third in Skyline Preseason Poll

Press Release from the Skyline Conference

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seven-time defending champion Farmingdale State has been tabbed to seize the 2014 Skyline women's soccer crown in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.

The Rams earned four first-place votes and 46 overall points, while 2013 regular season champion Mount Saint Mary garnered three first-place votes and 44 total points to finish second in the voting.

FSC welcomes back junior forward Ashlee Thompson, a third-team NSCAA All-Region selection a year ago who led the team in goals (15), points (35) and game-winning tallies (five).  In addition, junior Andrea Kiefer returns after missing all of last season due to injury.  The Centereach, N.Y., resident garnered Skyline Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012 and boasts 43 career starts.

Following a 16-6 campaign in 2013, MSMC will be anchored by senior All-Conference returnees Jordyn Catapano, Vanessa DiSilvio and Nicole Gianotti under the direction of first-year head coach BreLynn Nasypany.  St. Joseph's-L.I. placed third in the poll with 36 total points, followed by Old Westbury (28), Mount Saint Vincent (25), Sage (22), Purchase (16) and Maritime (8).

The opening round of the six-team 2014 Skyline Women's Soccer Championship will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, with semifinal action slated for Wednesday, Nov. 5.  The title game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Purchase College in conjunction with the Skyline Fall Festival.

The Skyline also welcomes its newest member, Sarah Lawrence College, to the conference this season.  SLC will play every member institution in 2014 but will not be eligible for Skyline and NCAA Championship participation as it completes its final year of NCAA Division III provisional membership.
