Women's Soccer Draws with Paterson in First Home Contest

Patchogue, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles women's soccer team (0-2-1) couldn't escape their first home game with a victory after a 2-2, double-overtime draw to the William Paterson Pioneers (0-1-2) at Danzi Stadium.

The first score of the game came from St. Joseph's freshman Claire Brady (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches), who scored a perfect strike in the 34th minute.  Brady converted off a pass from senior forward Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) for her first assist of the season. The Pioneers were quick to respond when freshman Celine-Ann Samaniego scored an equalizer in the 41st minute.

Following the half, SJC junior Joann Murino (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) scored on an unassisted attack in the 77th minute to give the home team a lead. However, with just under four minutes left in regulation the Pioneers were able to re-group to score a late goal to force extra time.  The goal came when the Pioneer's Alana Keffer finished off a shot that escaped SJC's goalkeeper, junior Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./Newfield), following a save that she lost control of.

After two overtime sessions, both keepers remained perfect ending the game with a draw.

The Golden Eagles will host Richard Stockton at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday, as they attempt to capture their first victory of the season.
