Patchogue, N.Y. — After giving up an early goal in the first half, the Lady Eagles (1-7-1, 0-2 SKY) weren't able to find an equalizer in their 1-0 loss against Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Mary on Saturday (5-3, 2-0 SKY).
The Mount Saint Mary Knights early goal was the result of an impressive strike that came at the13:22 mark. Following that goal, the Golden Eagles defense was able to buckle down and not allow any further tallies behind SJC goalkeeper, Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./Newfield), who had a career-day in net accumulating a season-high 16 saves.
St. Joseph's showed promise throughout the contest, but failed to convert on key opportunities going 0-for-4 on their best chances. SJC's captain Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) showed high persistence and determination against the Knights by leading the Lady Eagles with five shots. In the 88th minute Martino nearly scored when she blasted a shot that whizzed a little over the crossbar.
SJC offensive woes continue to hurt the Golden Eagles who are on a four game-losing streak.
The Lady Eagles look to turn the page on their struggles as they travel to New Jersey to take on Centenary College (1-8) on Monday, September 29 at 4:00 pm.
