Golden Eagles Earn Road Victory Against Staten Island Dolphins

Staten Island, N.Y. — After a rocky start to the season, having challenged many elite non-conference teams, the Golden Eagles (4-8-2, 1-3 Skyline) seem to be finally picking up speed. The Eagles brought home their fourth victory of the season Tuesday night after defeating the Staten Island Dolphins (6-6-1, 5-0 CUNYAC) on their turf, 1-0.

It didn't take long for SJC to assert their dominance as their relentless offensive efforts quickly led to a penalty kick opportunity at 11:15. Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./ Bellport) stepped up to the plate to take the kick and fired the ball to the left side of the keeper and just out of her reach, subsequently giving the Eagles the solitary edge they would need for the match.

Despite the lead, the Eagles continued to push offensively and certainly kept the Dolphin defense busy with 14 more shots on goal, all of which the CSI keeper saved.  SJC keeper Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) was not inactive, however, as she made seven saves to contribute to the win.

The Golden Eagles will step back onto their own field tomorrow, October 16, for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match against the Farmingdale State Rams in an effort to pick up their second conference win of the season.
