Lady Golden Eagles Soar on Senior Day With 3-0 Win Over Purchase

Patchogue, N.Y. - In her last home regular season Skyline Conference game as a Golden Eagle, senior forward Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport), recorded two goals and an assist as she led St. Joseph's College (6-10-2, 3-4 Skyline) to a 3-0 victory over the Purchase Panthers (7-8, 3-4 Skyline).  SJC's victory moves the ladies into 5th place in the Skyline Conference.

The Lady Golden Eagles played an aggressive first half, dominating in time-of-possession and shots on goal.  Fifteen minutes into the contest, Martino nearly scored on a break-away chance.

At 19:28, SJC found the back of the net after Claire Brady (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) cleaned up a Martino pass.

One minute later, the second Golden Eagle goal would be tallied after excellent passing from Kaleigh Gorman (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Brady freed Martino for her first strike of the game.

SJC finished up the Panthers in the second half at 58:42 after Martino dribbled, turned, then blasted a shot from 20 yards out for the 3-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Panthers on the day 17-6.

Freshman Hannah Steffens (Northport, N.Y. / Smithtown Christian) recorded the SJC shutout while tallying five saves. Steffans stepped-up after starting goalkeeper Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y. / Newfield) went down with a back injury in pre-game warm ups.

St. Joseph's College last Skyline Conference game will be played at Old Westbury (7-7-1, 1-5 Skyline) on Monday at 2:30 p.m. with a playoff spot hanging in the balance.
