Murino & Martino Named to 2014 Women's Soccer All-Skyline Conference Team

New York, NY – The Skyline Conference announced the Women's Soccer All-Conference Team for the 2014 season on Monday, honoring the most elite players in the league. St. Joseph's own Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./ Bellport), team leader in goals this season, as well as Joann Murino (Bohemia, N.Y./ Connetquot), SJC's top defensive force, both earned a spot on the second team.

After tallying a program-record 26 goals in 2014, senior forward Stephanie Maybie of Old Westbury has been tabbed the Skyline Women's Soccer Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's nine head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Farmingdale State's Andrea Kiefer as the 2014 Defensive Player of the Year, Taylor Howard of Farmingdale State as Rookie of the Year and Andrew Gamarra of Sage as Coach of the Year.

Maybie leads the conference in goals and points (58) and shares the league lead with six game-winning goals.  The Massapequa, N.Y., resident has eight multi-goal performances and registered four-goal efforts against both John Jay (Sept. 4) and Ramapo (Sept. 13) this season.  Maybie earned second-team All-Conference distinction in both 2012 and 2013 and her 70 career goals are tops in program annals.

Kiefer anchors a Farmingdale State defense that has recorded six shutouts and yielded just six goals in conference play.  The junior back has compiled five assists and also earned Skyline Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012 before missing all of last season due to injury.

A freshman forward, Howard leads FSC with four game-winning goals while adding 12 goals and two assists in 17 contests.  The Massapequa Park, N.Y., native has four multi-goal efforts in 2014 and her first career goal on Sept. 6 lifted the Rams to a 1-0 win over Skidmore.

Joining Maybie, Kiefer and Howard on the All-Conference first team are teammates Vanessa DiSilvio, Bridget McKeever, Destiny Ribadeneyra, Mary Riley and Marissa Segreto of Mount Saint Mary; Farmingdale State's Alena Gannon and Ashlee Thompson; Erica Lencsak of Mount Saint Vincent; and Savannah Mason of Sage.

The second-team All-Conference includes Amanda Green and Amanda Maertz of Purchase; Farmingdale State's Breanna Blair, Samantha Kender and Melissa Lijo; Jennifer Martino and Joann Murino of St. Joseph's-L.I.; Mount Saint Vincent's Erin Dailey and Megan DeRosa; Jenna Retell and Teagan Waddingham of Sage; and Allison Jones of Mount Saint Mary.

In his first season at Sage, Gamarra has guided the Gators to a program record-tying 11 victories and a berth in the semifinals of the 2014 Skyline Women's Soccer Championship.  Sage (11-4-2) earned the No. 3 seed in the championship – its highest ever – after compiling a 6-2 mark in league play.  Gamarra is a 2010 graduate of Carthage College and also earned a masters degree from Carthage in 2013.
