Indianapolis, IN| Senior Joann Murino of the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team was selected as a nominee for the NCAA's 2016 Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the governing body on Tuesday afternoon.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award "honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership."

A record breaking 517 student-athletes across all three divisions of the NCAA will be considered for the honor, and after selecting three finalists from each division, the association will select its Woman of the Year in October.

Murino, one of 169 Division III nominees, competed at St. Joseph's for three seasons (2013-15) and captained the women's soccer team to its first-ever Skyline Conference title in 2015. After helping the side earn its first NCAA Tournament bid and being named a Skyline All-Conference First-Team selection, Murino was named to the NSCAA All-East Region Third-Team.

Off the field, Murino has also shone in the classroom and was named Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015. Scholar-Athlete of the Year is awarded to the All-Conference First-Team selection with the highest GPA in each Skyline-sponsored sport.
