Oneonta, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Mayor's Cup. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season, while Oneonta improved to 2-2.

The two sides were quiet in the first 10 minutes of action, with Oneonta recording the game's first shot at 11:27 which was saved by the freshman goalkeeper Samantha Wedderburn. The Red Dragons would substitute five players from their starting 11 at the 16:57 mark in order to pressure the St. Joseph's defense. The substitution would pay off for Oneonta as Kayla Belush would register her first goal of the season perfectly slotting the ball from the right side into the left corner. The Red Dragons doubled their lead in the 29th minute as Belush sent a through ball to the feet of Jess Downin who shot it for the 2-0 lead.

St. Joseph's tested Oneonta's starting keeper Emilie Mull twice in the first –courtesy of Shannon Condron and Josseline Sorto –but reached halftime still trailing the Red Dragons 2-0.

Oneonta came out strong in the opening minutes of the second half, generating four shots through 10 minutes of action. Kelsie Moinzadeh would notch her first goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute, when teammate Belush sent a cross into the box that the forward headed into the net. Three minutes later Amanda Rooney would pad Oneonta's lead, 4-0, after free kick that led into a scuffle in the box as the ball its way to Rooney who shot it in.

Belush rounded out the scoring for the Red Dragons in the 85th minute, as she took advantage of a Taylor Messina shot that hit the pole, and was able to put it past Wedderburn for the 5-0 win.

Wedderburn was credited with 10 saves on the evening in contrast to Red Dragon's starting keeper (0).

St. Joseph's is back in action tomorrow, September 11 when they play in their second game of the Mayor's Cup against Hartwick University. Kick-off is set for 2:30 PM.
