SJC Swim Team Places Third at Skyline Championships

Purchase, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College swim team finished in third place Friday evening at the 2013 Skyline Swimming Championships on the campus of Purchase College.  Mount Saint Mary seized its second straight Skyline crown and third in four years.

Led by freshman Lauren Becerra's wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.89), 500-yard freestyle (5:37.67) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:27.30) events, Mount Saint Mary took home the women's crown with 107 total points.  Purchase finished runner-up with 65 points, followed by St. Joseph's-L.I. (60), Maritime (58), Mount Saint Vincent (39) and Old Westbury (23). 

Becerra garnered Women's Swimmer of the Year distinction, while Mount Saint Vincent freshman Erin Maloney was named the Rookie of the Year as she placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.42 and captured gold in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:24.34.  Danielle Lindner of Mount Saint Mary was named the Skyline Men's & Women's Coach of the Year, while Team Sportsmanship Awards were presented to Mount Saint Mary on the men's side and St. Joseph's-L.I. on the women's side.
